Dave's Trip to Bonaire 2002

(Click on thumbs for larger image)

Bonaire, Curacoa and Aruba make up the Dutch West Indies and occupy a place in the Caribbean off the cost of Venezuela. The images shown here were taken in September 2002. Bonaire is out with the hurricane belt and is a shore divers and macro photographers paradise. Bonaire is surrounded by a fringing reef which starts right at the shoreline and hosts over eighty dive sites. Nor far offshore, Klein Bonaire, a small island be reached by boat, has more splendid dive sites. Some of the reefs around Bonaire were damaged by the peripheral effects of hurricane Lenny, but many are in good condition, whilst others are recovering their former glory.

Most of the images were captured in 15 meters or less of crystal clear water and taken using a Nikon f100 with a 105 micro f2.8D lens in a Subal housing. Twin YS 120 strobes set for TTL provided additional light for the f16 aperture setting used. Film was a mixture of prepaid and Velvia 50

.

I do not have any favourite site on Bonaire as what you see depends on your luck on the day, however, small wall and rock pile gave many opportunities to capture frog fish and sea horses.
